Is anyone taking an angiotension II receptor blocker (ARB) for high blood pressure? My dr. just took me off of beta blockers and onto Diovan HCT because a variety of side effects I had experienced from beta blockers. I've read about ARB's on the internet, but would like to hear from anyone who's taking them.

Due to the fact that that they affect asthma in a negative way..I was on Diovan, which I found to be excellent, but my insurance company refused to pay for it, so I am on a drug similar to Diovan (In the same class of chemestry)...I take Avapro, and my BP has been pretty much under control...I think you will like it.....Take Care, Harrybaby:D :D

ARB's

I've been taking AVALIDE for nearly 3 years now. Controls my hypertension well with no side effects so far! (Avalide is a combination of Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide diuretic)

Thanks for your encouraging replies. It sounds like ARB's (Diovan HCT) will be a good thing, without the beta blocker side effects. Thanks again for your input.

Please keep us posted on your progress. What have been the before/after readings? I started a similar post "Frustrated with High BP" a few weeks back and I've been on the sample trial "Rollercoaster" the last 10 months trying to find a suitable med to lower my 140/90 BP. After trying Altace (5mg and 10mg), then Lotrel I'm now on Toprol XL (50 mg). All three have various side effects with Lotrel being the worse for me so far. I've been on the Toprol XL for about 10 days and I mostly feel tired. I know it slows the heart beat but I'm looking for the best way to lower the BP with the least amount of side effects. Your way maybe THE way.... :)
