Hi all - I cannot believe that it only took 3 weeks for my doctor and insurance company (Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield) to approve me for a home monitoring system. I am so excited. I received it on Friday and had a training session on Saturday morning where I actually got to do my first test! QAS was great and they really worked hard to get my doctor to approve the device. He was concerned that I would try to make medication changes without consulting him. Do all doctors really think that ALL patients do that? I would be too scared to raise or lower my warafin without my doctors knowledge. I bleed enough on my own without making it thinner!!! Thanks all for all your information in getting my monitor! It is greatly appreciated.

By the way, my cardio is sending me to an electrical cardiologists to try and control my fast heart rate and the extra beat. I have no idea what they can do or will do, so I will post once I know something. Thanks again all!

You're going to love home testing. And believe it or not, most likely you will also end up doing your own dosing, whether it's official or unofficial. It's not rocket science. Make sure you keep a record of your INR and doses. You'll soon know a lot more about how your body reacts to dose changes than your doctor does. Some doctors insist you still keep calling in. Mine doesn't because she knows I know what I'm doing.

Congratulations on getting approval for your home monitor! You will love it! I also do not have to report my INR readings to my doctor because he knows I know what I'm doing, afterall, I've been on coumadin for 30+ years.

Have fun!!!

Get that evil word "thinner" out of your vocabulary right now. Anticoagulant is what your on, not a thinner. Your blood does not thin, it is inhibited from clotting. ;)

Yes Sir, Captain Sir!!! Did not really mean to type that word, but I have issues with my brain telling my fingers what to actually type!!!!
