I recently had a valvotomy proceedure done on my aortic valve (in april). I thought that I would have a Ross proceedure, but when I came to I was told that my surgeon thought that it was better that they do a repair now and try to buy some time.

I felt fine the first few months, but it seems that the dizziness is back again. I have been to a new cardiologist and done the echo - I have moderate leakeage. The doc didn't think that the leakeage is causing the spells. Thought it could be an arrythmia. i thought that it might be the meds, but was told that was probably not the case. I am on 25 mg of Atenolol ( I break a 50 mg pill in 1/2) and 50 mg of losartan. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the site and the family!

What your experiencing, I also did while taking Cozaar or Losartan tablets. It only happened occasionally. Is this the case with you?

Unfortunetaly, it could be a combo of things which makes it difficult to pin point.

Perhaps someone else can shed some light on this subject, but my guess is the Losartan. :)

Hi Andy!
I was also suffering from dizzy spells which I called my cardio about. I was on Atenolol?, 25mg a day. He cut it back to every other day and that did the trick. Dizzies are no fun!

I had a lot of trouble with dizziness last spring. I couldn't even walk upright anywhere without almost passing out.

However, the problems finally resolved after med adjustments (switched from calcium channel blocker to ACE inhibitor, also decreased daytime dose but increased nighttime dose.)

On the other hand, the amount of valve leakage and heart enlargement also decreased, so I'm not sure if the dizziness was caused by my condition or by the meds. In any case, the med adjustments seem to have remedied the situation, whether directly or indirectly.

Since med adjustments can remedy the adjustments whether or not the underlying cause is your current med regimen itself or your condition, and is the easier thing to adjust as well, I would ask your doc to try adjusting the meds a few times first before considering other more drastic remedies. For instance, in my case, I was 1 day away from resurgery before tests revealed that the med adjustments were sufficient for the time being.

Good luck and God bless!

Another option might be an extended release Beta Blocker. I take 25 - 50 mg of Toprol XL, depending on BP and HR.
