Great website! Glad I found some extra support to help me through my surgery. I am amaized at the wealth of information and support this website includes. I have the support of my family and friends but until you talk to someone that is going through the same issues is priceless.
My surgery will include replacing my arotic valve. We have ruled out the Aortic Root replacement and Coronary artery bypass which we thought we we going to have to do also. I had my Heart cath last month and the coronaries looked fine.
I am presently employed as an RN Clinical Manager in the Operating Room at the hospital where I will be having my surgery. My surgeon will be implanting an ON-X Aortic mechanical heart valve. This seems to be a superior valve, in my opinion, compaired to the St. Judes or Carbomedics valves.
I probably know more than the average person about this surgery - not sure if that is a good or bad thing. Sometimes knowing too much makes you more anxious.
I think the hardest thing will be the waiting game.
My wife and son are growing more anxious as the day approaches.
I have researched the internet for information on this particular surgery also and have found a wealth of topics.

Welcome to the site! When is your surgery scheduled?

(edit) obviously I read contents and not headers! OF COURSE your surgery is scheduled for 2/15! Can I still blame it on pumphead after 3 years????

I noticed from looking at your profile that your surgery is scheduled for February 15th. What a great Valentine present to you and your family, to repair your "heart." I am two years out from have my AVR and the support and love that I have received from this forum is unreal. If you have a question, all you have to do is ask. If you need support through love and prayers, just ask. If you get down and depressed which most people do after this serious surgery, let us talk it through with you. We have all been there. Family and friends are great during this time, but unless they have been through something of this nature they have no idea what you are going through. We do. Hugs & prayers are coming your way.

Greeting and Welcome Aboard

Greeting and Welcome Aboard

Welcome aboard!! This website is a great place to gather information or just vent. I know you will do great and will be back in full swing in no time. I do not know when my AVR will be but I hope it is soon. I am a new member here and these folks have been wonderful; I know you will find the same concern and support that I have.

Keep us posted and have someone let us know when you are post-op.

Best Wishes,

Welcome from another Coloradoan! My husband (the AVR patient) grew up in Wheatridge, graduated from WR High and most of his family is still right around W. 32nd Avenue. I love that area.

Good luck - not sure if you're having your surgery at Lutheran Exempla or another hospital in Denver.

Welcome- I put you on the calendar for the 15th, so now you are official!:) Look forward to helping in any way we can and also to being the recipients of your expertise.

Welcome! It's great having another experienced RN join our group. I think it probably is a blessing and a curse to have the 1st hand knowledge that you do. We look forward to your continued participation.

Glenda beat me to it. How perfect to have your heart fixed 2/15. You will also be able to spend Valentine's Day with your family. Don't eat too much candy. I have been posting here since Sept, I think. I only wish I had known about this site before my surgery. I visit here at least daily.
Take care and try to keep in touch on a regular basis.
From one RN to another.

Well my 37 year old husband is home recovering from his AVR on 1/17/06. I am amazed at his quick recovery. He also opted for the On-x valve because it seemed to have less occurence for thrombogenisus sp? Anyway, the waiting before hand and the emotional aspect has probably been the hardest part.

Good luck to you and feel free to write if you have any questions that you would like my honey to answer for you.

Sandra;)

Welcome!

Welcome!

Clarke, Glad to have you join us! My OHS was a long time ago, but since I found this site, a lot of memories have surfaced. This is a wonderful place, and can be just the balm your heart needs sometimes! Take care, and stay in touch! Brian

Best of luck on your forthcoming surgery. I am now (as of yesterday) 37, and exactly 1 week 3 days post op from a AAA replacement and a aortic valve repair. Im feeling great and every day seems a little better. Like you, I also did alot of research and basically knew what was going to happen to me every step of the way and I had a tremendous peace going into surgery. Use this site, ask whatever questions you may have, the people here are wonderful! Anyway, hope your journey to the mountain is uneventful and peaceful as I wish your Journey over it to be..

Deane
