Has anyone heard anything about On-x? I've been doing extensive reading on the product and can see why they believe theirs is better, but has anyone heard or read anything negative? Maybe the only thing is not enough time on the market, but new isn't really a bad thing.....

That was my only concern, my surgeons both say that the on-x is promising but that if it becomes as good as the st jude then that is great but it is unlikely to improve upon.

Have you seen one?

I've seen the two together and the st jude is bi-leaflet and the on-x is single leaflet. the single leaflet hangs down lower than the idividual leaflets on the st jude.....kinda seems more of a movement to me...is that good or bad? if i knew the answer to that id be designing the things myself.

If the future reduced/no anticoagulation of on-x turns out to be true that will be a plus point for on-x over st-jude....

I'm not sure if the On-X is available with composite Dacron graft for your aneurysm but know for sure the StJude valve and graft are one piece...simplifies surgery and less risky.

As far as I knew also, the On-x valve is bi-leaflet. The design seems to feature a longer design that is flared at the end and a more natural design. The leaflets also open to a 90 degree angle, creating a better blood flow and less turbulence. Here is another helpful link, where this info. was gathered. It has a nice side by side comparison and if you look at the mechanical valve on the left, at the bottom, you can see how the leaflets are not open at 90 degrees.

I spoke to a cardiac surgeon yesterday about the ON-X. I was saying how the medical trial was an exciting development, and he pointed out that when the St. Judes came out they also thought that no anti-coagulation would be needed, and that turned out to be wrong. I still think the ON-X is an exciting development, but wanted to share this info. I had not been aware of it before, and I don't know how many others on here know about it.

Mine works fine. I hate the whole mechanical thing in my body thing, the noise (though I'm deaf in left ear and so hypersensitive to any noises, have been all my life) -- is bothersome, but all drs. tell me that I will get used to it. It's been 4 mos. post op and the thing works. Supposed to work for 100-200 years, AND I bought the extended warranty.

So far, so good. Just one guy's experience, but one surgeon who's probably put in more valves than just about anybody, Dr. Laks at UCLA, told me the On-X was the way to go. So...here I am.

let me know if you have any questions. send message or email.
