Anyone taking Evista for osteoporsis?

Any comments or suggestions.

I read that one of the side effects is blood clots and that worrys me.

Thanks Earline

PS I am going to consult my cardio before starting it.

I took one of the weekly ones but finally quit. Didn't seem to be hlping at all. My current dr wanted to do a yearly thing but she hasn't got round to it yet.

I know all medications have side effects and I'm proof of that having said that one of the major side effects is blood clots. I am not on coumadin not even aspirin so my concern is the blood clots.

I did take actenonl at one time but got off of it because of the jaw issue. I have a LOT of dental problems

I'll keep you posted when I decide what I'll do.
Thanks for your input

I took Evista for a short time because I was losing bone mass, not yet osteoporosis. I can't take estrogen due to migraines, can't take Fosomax or Actonel because of GI upset. My next option is to try Boniva, but I'm sure I'll have issues with it too. My last bone density this year actually showed that I picked up bone mass in both hips because whomever took my test 3 years ago programmed the machine wrong. I have some bone loss in my lumbar spine but nothing close to osteoporosis.

I used calcitonin nasal spray to prevent bone loss but since my test came back so good this year, I quit. I seemed to forget to use it as I was supposed to also. In the frig, out of mind. You have to keep it refrigerated, spray alternating nostrils once daily. When I go for my annual this year, I'll ask my PCP about options again. Right now, weight bearing excercise and calcium supplements is all I have.

I did not like Evista because it caused severe hotflashes. I had enough of those for several years after my surgery for endo. This dang TX heat is stirring them up again but for the most part, I'm hotflash free!:)

I have been taking EVISTA for 2 years now.
I tried to take Boniva, but it tore up my esophagaus. My only concern taking it was that it was for POST menopausal women and I am not that. BUT I do have Osteoporosis, due to the fact that I had undiagnosed Celiac disease for many years.
I had a bone scan 1 year after taking it, and it showed no change..so I guess that means that it didn't get worse???
I have NO side effects or problems with it.
