Has anyone been stranded because of the blizzard in TX-OK-KS/elsewhere or up in the upper Midwest?
I had entered a Saturday-only cat show in Amarillo TX (in the Texas Panhandle), and decided on Wednesday that I'd stay home (first time I can recall in 20 years that I decided to blow off a show. Maybe this was an omen?). Then the bad weather moved in and I was glad to stay home.
Judges for the show had travel problems -- one managed to drive from near Gainesville TX to Amarillo; 50 miles from Amarillo was when she hit the blizzard.
Amarillo's airport was closed. A friend from Phoenix had booked a cheap ticket on Southwest pingponging her Phoenix-San Antonio-Amarillo (and maybe Denver was part of it, too). She called me from San Antonio, said she would have to detour to Dallas Love Field overnight, then try for Amarillo this morning.
I left work an hour early, raced the 35 miles in early rush-hour traffic to Dallas Love Field, picked her up, got her checked in and then we went to a nearby steakhouse (7oz filet w/potato & salad for $10.95!!!!!!!!!!!) and back to her hotel.
This morning a friend I would have ridden with woke me up to say the show had been cancelled. Some who were in Amarillo are stuck there for the time being.
I know there's a lot of people affected around the country by this yucky, dangerous weather. Hope everyone is staying safe.
All I have to contend with here at home are cold temps and horrific winds. There was an annual charity bike ride in my town today. A friend only did 21 miles (compared to 40something last year) and said she learned that it can be too cold and too windy to ride. She said it was 38 when the ride started, 41 when she & her husband threw in the towel.
