Hmmm...got a copy of my echo this morning and it looked pretty good. (Yay!) The only oddity noted was that the apex of the left ventricle is hypokinetic. LV size, wall thickness, and overall function are normal.

Anyone know what the apex being hypokinetic means? I have an appointment with my cardio on Thursday but am just curious. Can't seem to find anything with a Google search.

Hope everyone is well.

Cheers,
Michelle

Main Entry: hy·po·ki·net·ic
Pronunciation: -net-ik
Function: adjective
: characterized by, associated with, or caused by decreased motor activity <hypokinetic obese patients> <hypokinetic hypoxia>

I'm assuming that it's not contracting to it's full ability. Perhaps a weakened state? I'm only guessing, I really don't know.

From my Merriam-Webster's Medical Desk Dictionary,
paperback copy ($20):

hypokinetic - adj: characterized by, associated with, or caused by decreased motor activity (~ obese patients)

Could that mean that you are 'not firing on all cylinders'?

(sorry for the pun :)

You probably need to ask a Doctor what that means in relation to your heart.

Hi,

Thanks, Ross!

Oh Al, you have NO clue just how few cylinders I feel like I'm firing on. :D For the first few years following my surgery in '99 I felt like my brain was back - I was quick, sharp, focused, and energetic. However, over the past couple of years I feel like I've lost about 75% of my brain power. It's so frustrating!

I do exercise daily so this can't be put down to a lack of physical activity.

Ah well, the good news is that the rest of the LV functions seem normal so this is probably not too much of a big deal. I'll ask on Thursday.

Take care everyone.

Cheers,
Michelle
