have had the echo the last one was 9-25. I have the results right here in front of me. I don't understand alot of it maybe you could help me understand it. My doctors don't seem to explain things to me. Or maybe I just don't know what questions to ask. My test say's....LVED is 52, IVs is 14, Left Atrium is 33, lves IS 30, F/S is 42, Chamber size is Mild Concertric left ventricular hypertrophy. Mirtal leaflet thickening, dilated aortic root, Wall motion with ejection fraction at 70% Thickened echogenic anterior mitral valve leaflet with 2 nodular densities(calcified vegetation.) Severe mitral regurg. with systolici flow reversal in pulmonary vein. Mild concentric left ventrical hypertrophy with severe turbulence of left ventricular outflow and systolic anterior motion of the mitral leaflet causing outflow gradient (peak of 77 mm Hg and mean of 43mm Hg) Fenestrated looking non-coronary aortic cusp with two jets of mild aortic insufficiency. Okay there it is can anyone help me understand all this.....HELP........Should have been a doctor......hehehe.

Well, the good news is your left ventricle hasn't enlarged -- both numbers (LVED, which is the end diastolic size, and LVES which is the end systolic size) are within normal limits.

Your ejection fraction is also great at 70%.

Your left atrium is a bit enlarged (30 is the upper limit of "normal").

This all means your severe MR probably hasn't yet done a whole lot of damage to the rest of your heart. You have essentially the same problem that my wife has, but your regurgitation is a little more severe. Do you have any symptoms? If you do, it's probably time to at least start considering the whens and wheres of surgery.

The rest is either self-explanatory or so complicated that I have no idea how to decipher it. :)

April - go to about.com - search for DrRich in heartdisease/cardiology, go to his forum (you will have to join) and present your numbers to him and he will tell you what they mean. He's a real EP cardiologist who answers your questions about the heart (and other things), tho he will not give you advice. You might want to check in there from time to time because, like this forum, there is so much you will want to know about your heart. Dr Rich will answer you within a day - probably in an hour or so.

He is also here:

Thank you so much. I feel somewhat better. Yes I have lots of symptoms. I get dizzy, and faint. I can feel my heart beating in my eyes, neck and most of my upper body most all the time now. I am always tired. I get short of breath. I get lots of chest pains and get flutters, or sometimes feels like my heart skips a beat. I have weakness in my arms and legs. I could go on but it would be lengthy...hehehe. At least I know that the echo I had in Sept is not to bad. My doctor didn't have time to explain it to me. Oh I also have Wolfe Parkinson White Syndrome

I would be concerned that my doctor did not have time to explain things to me. I wonder if you might want to seek a second opinion about your symptoms. I saw one bad doctor and one mediocre doctor before seeing an excellent doctor. It does make a huge difference, both in your understanding and in your confidence that you are in good hands.

I am looking to get another opinion. Although since my job did not offer insurance and I was unable to afford to get any plus losing my job while I was hospitalized for endocridites I have no insurance and I am limited to the teaching hospitals in this area. Unless I start to go to an outside doctor and my medical bills exceeds my husbands income by 4x then maybe medicade will pick up the bills but there is no gtd. So I am worried of doing that since I am very limited on out income at this point, at least untill I am able to work again.

April with symptoms like those, you need to be getting this taken care of as soon as possible. It's getting to be emergent in nature. Have you checked some good local hospitals to see what exactly their policy is on helping the uninsured to receive medical assistance?
