I signed up for a screen name a few days but It says it needed to be approved. I am a 36 year old veteran and was diagnosed with a mitral valve leak about 1.5 years ago. It has since worsened and am being flown to Houston to the VA hospital which is run by Baylor on January 4th for a consult and most likely surgery. Does anyone have any feedback on this place? I am quite nervous because this all happened so fast and people find it hard to believe because I look younger than I am and I'm in great shape. I'm a nervous wreck.

You will be in good hands there. I had my surgery at another Baylor hospital in Houston; CHI St. Luke's Baylor. My cardiology group last month joined the Baylor system. My surgeon is also on the Baylor system.

I also was stunned when my aortic stenosis was diagnosed and I was told I needed it replaced. But after the initial shock I was grateful it was discovered or I could have been dead in a year.

You will be in excellent hands. Not to worry. If you send me a private message when you get in town maybe we can touch base if you'd like.

First off thanks for your military service. I had my surgery at the V.A. Medical Center Dallas Tx. I had an aortic mechanical valve and ascending vein graft. I was in for 10 days and they treat you like a king. I have also had 2 other surgeries there with no problems. My heart surgeon was great too, The V.A. Hospital has changed quite a bit over the last few years. I have been enrolled for 25 years without any problems whatsoever and never run out of medications. And if Baylor has anything to do with it I know you will be in good hands. I was in Baylor Hospital Dallas for 4 days 3 years ago for a heart attack. They were the first to diagnose my anuerysm, leaky valve, and chf. They ran every heart test except for a stress test that they could run on me.
