Has anyone out there became pregnant while on coumadin? I know that is is harmful for the fetus, but what if you are taking it before you realize you are pregnant? I have read that between 6 and 9 weeks is when it begins to harm the fetus, so if you bridge off to heprin before then, it should be fine? Anyone have any experiences with this?

I googled and found these (among others), but it seems the concensus is coumadin and pregnancy = a big no-no :( Even if you are contemplating pregnancy, they suggest bridging.

I would suggest that if you, or a friend, think you might be pregnant while on coumadin, that you go see a doctor as soon as possible. Don't mean to frighten you, but maybe it is not too late to go with heparin?

If this is something that is a possibility, you need to see an OB now. If it's hypothetical, I would recommend that you talk to your OB before taking the risk. It's one of those things that you just won't know for sure until the baby is born. With my first, I went to a going away party and drank several margaritas, then realized I was pregnant about a week later. I stressed for the rest of my pregnancy about brain issues. It's just too much stress to risk.

If someone is on coumadin and becomes pregnant, you need to contact your OB/GYN and Cardiologist immediately.. There are doctors that are confident and will help you through this, but this will be a very high risk pregnancy for both the mother & the baby in my opinion. I do have a friend that I met through my cardiologist that did have a planned pregnancy and had a baby while on coumadin, but there were many obstacles that she went through that discouraged me to ever try and her second she adopted.. if you (or anyone reading this post and is going through this) would like to talk to her, PM me and I can give you her contact information if she is ok with that(which I'm sure she would be). I'm pretty sure I read that there are some ladies here on the boards that have been through this as well...
