Hi, all--
Haven't been around in a while. School year has proven so far to be as hectic as it was when I was the newspaper adviser. Anyway, went to the cardio for my 6-month checkup yesterday. Dr. V wants me to wear an Event Monitor for one month to check my arrythmia. He suggested that my "malfunctioning" mitral valve might be causing atrial fibrillation (I do get quite a few "gurgly" palpitations) and he wants to see what's going on. Again brought up valve replacement, when just 6 months ago the prospect of having one was a looong way off.
Any of you ever heard of this correlation between prolpapse and a. fib? If you've had this problem, what was the treatment? Did it lead to valve replacement? I'm just curious because I had never heard of this.
Thanks,
Debbie

I learned this in my GP days. There is a definite association which increases as the patient ages.Get the cardilogist to give you the latest stats.

Debster,
As Marty stated the mitral valve and a-fib go hand in hand. If you go to
"The one valve for life" in the reference section there are statistic for chances of a-fib after Mitral vs Aortic surgery. Mitral is much higher. It has to take more abuse then any other valve in the heart, so maybe it is a little more sensitive. :) ;)
