Basically, I know it's extremely unlikely, if possible at all, but I would absolutely love to join the U.S. military (again, if at all possible).
Recently, I had my first open heart surgery, which included an aortic root and valve replacement (biological).
So, I was wondering if anyone here was someone, or knew someone who had served in the military on a medical waiver for heart problems?
Regardless of how far fetched it seems, I'm still going to try, but I'm also extremely stubborn. ;) I won't take no for an answer until they shoot me down themselves.
It'd be awesome to hear if anyone else has done it before though. Maybe it'd help motivate me more. :)
Thanks, everyone!

Greenie, I seem to remember a member who was in the military while he had his surgery, and I want to say he was allowed to stay in, but could be wrong. I have no idea what his name was. Maybe Lynn will come along to comment. She is much better at remembering members names and finding their old posts. I wish you the best of luck.

Hi greenie, There have been a few members who were in or hoped to join the Military over the years, I'm nt sure how things turned out but I think the fact you have a biological valve will help at least what I remeber from other members.
one person is AiT4Life he has a long thread, with videos before/after surgery he was in the Air force and planned on going right back after recoverybut we hvent heard from him fr a while, You might want to try and PM him, or contact him thru his youtube page that he links to in this thread http://www.valvereplacement.org/forums/showthread.php?37854-BAVlogger!-)&highlight= I believe he was also in touch with some other people with heart/vave issue in the Service or hoping to be.

Also cewilk is a pretty new member in the Marines. http://www.valvereplacement.org/forums/showthread.php?40111-24-year-old-with-BAV&highlight= He was going to get a mechanical valve, but would have been discharged, he ended up choosing the Ross procedure (move patients pulm valve to Aorta and get a tissue pulm valve) to hopefully stay active in the service.

Good luck, Im curious Ithink you are saying you already wre in the Military and want to join again, aren't you pretty young 18-19?

Thanks everyone!
And actually, nope. I was never in the military, though I would love to join. When I said "Again, if at all possible", I was just emphasizing that I know it's unlikely. >.<
Generally when I talk to more healthy members and people, they usually just remind me by saying, "Well, these things are a DQ, so no, you won't be able to", but I also know that medical waivers are on a case-by-case basis, and that some people have gotten in for things that most others have been disqualified for.
