Everyone talks about their OHS sternum scar -- there's even a whole forum for photos! Did anyone have permanent scars at their tube sites? It's hard for me to imagine the scars I have there going away.
Yep...scars from drain tubes (twice - different spots), the pace maker wires, and the spots where they tried to use the turkey baster of a needle to drain (unsuccessfully) the fluid when I went into pericardial tamponade. It's quite the conversation piece at the beach.
Yep...I have a total of 5 now, 2 from my first surgery and 3 from this last one, one of which is actually in my breast. Why in the world they had to put one there is beyond me. I also have scars from 5 heart caths as well as one nice 2" scar on my ankle and one just like it on my upper thigh when they had to perform a "cut down" when I was an infant. The chest tube scars aren't as big of a deal because you can't see them as readily as you can the big sternum scar.
One of my drain tube scars looks like a second belly button only farther up my belly. That drain tube exposed severe bleeding caused when they pulled my pacer wires so in some ways that belly button was sort of a re-birth.
I have one from my old skool style gall bladder removal, 2 from the first OHS and 3 from the second. My sternotomy is about 5 cms longer now too. I'm sure there are more scars there on my chest and abdomen, they've just been absorbed by the others now.
If you have minimal invasive surgery you get all kinds of scars. Some holes are for cameras, some for drain tubes, some for instruments and a few I have no idea what they were for. Fine with me. You can make up some pretty interesting stories to explain the scars.
I have 2 additional scars too. One thing they had in looked like a spring. I never could figure out what the heck that thing was for, but one of the scars is from that spring. Two little scars where the main line was on my neck.
Yep...got the 2 bullet holes as we often call them here ...plus a myriad of small roundinsh scars from all the wires including a strange one on the side of my **** the size of a finger print from that awful pigtail catheter that drained my lung that was a real nasty one when it was removed. Oh yeah and an 8 incher along my leg where they harvested a vein for my bypass.
Yep. I have several scars from my pectus surgery, one of which includes a chest tube scar on the left side of my chest. I have another one below my zippper scar from my AVR. I was surprised that chest tube looked like some sort of deformed light bulb. I was glad when it was removed. Sometimes I get some stares at the beach. I don't care, I wear them proudly .
Chris has three scars from the chest tubes, 2 very small scars from the pace-maker wires, a very small scar from the Swan, and the large sternotomy scar. His chest is so hairy that the scars are really noticeable if you're paying attention.
