I have some! Kevin made E6on the first try...AND he was in the top 98th percentile in the entire navy to take the MA1 exam! He was frocked yesterday, and is now officially MA1 Paulson. Now if we could just get paid for it faster...

I will also be quitting my job. I deliver papers in the middle of the night. I started doing that in january, and FINALLY will be getting into a class that I have been trying to get into! I am tired of paying THEM to deliver their papers. Especially when gas here is $2.21 a gallon for regular unleaded. I know...rediculous, isn't it? I would be better off staying home NOT making money than running my car down. I have a 1999 Honda CRV, and they aren't meant to be paper delivery vehicles. So Two good peices of news. By July I hope to have my business(child developement home) up and running. I will be having a partner, and we have agreed to split everything down the middle(you know pay, costs, etc...) I am very excited! Well, I better get going! I will keep you all posted!

Heehee... I'm a photographer for a newspaper, a morning newspaper. It's Ok with us, we're in the office until sometime after mindight most nights (sometimes later) and then we go home. The paper is finished rolling off the press about 2am and at about 3 am some lonely bloke (what am I, Australian?) drives past our house, depositing a copy of it in the box next to our mailbox...

The press and motor route drivers are ALWAYS on our case in editorial to finish the paper before deadlines so they can go home early....

But then the press guys keep screwing stuff up all of the time so we have to resend pages to film so they can make their plates and get them on the press. It's a mess and it's a lot LESS efficient than it used to be thanks to a few key resignations, a retirement, and some transfers of staff to a "sister" paper in another part of the county.

Buncha crap.

This month's reimbursement for milage is based on a $1.98 a gallon gas price. The general manager for the paper sets it every month. Most gas stations are selling the cheap stuff at $2.03 or more...

You never win.

well, bless your heart, child - there you are. I was just reading an old thread by Jack (back in 2/2003) and there you were. I wondered about you just then.

Congratulations on Kevin's good news. We know he worked hard to achieve this. And you stop delivering those papers right now. My gdaughter did that too, and she fell asleep at the wheel, so as long as you are still doing it, you open the windows, play the radio, sing to yourself, whatever it takes. But leave it as soon as you can. I know you will have a good business and wish you good luck. The two of you have accomplished so much.

We have watched you come such a long way, Joy. And you live up to your name. Ann

Perhaps soon you'll be able to rejoin me in creating chaos and mayhem?

Congratulations to the both of you. Come back soon!

Joy, Congratulations on your good news! You must be so proud of your husband! :)
Good Luck in you new business too :D

Congratulations Joy on the news. It sounds like you and your husband are a real team. I, also, want to thank your husband for his service to our country.

So glad that you will be able to give up your paper route. :) Good luck on your new endeavor.

God bless.

Congratulations to your husband! Most don't make E6 on the first try. That's quite an accomplishment. Good luck in getting your business off the ground. That is my ideal dream....not have to drive in to the office every day :p

Joy:

Congratulations!!!!!
Glad you'll be able to "retire" from newspaper delivery work. Delivering newspapers ain't fun. Never done it, but I do work for a newspaper and have gone to work @ 1, 2 and 4 a.m., seen the circulation folks gathering to pick up the bundles at delivery points. YUCK! Double YUCK in nasty weather, too!

Congratulations to both of you Joy! It's nice to hear of a young couple working so well together in realizing their goals. All of your efforts are paying off and you've certainly earned your accomplishments. Keep us posted on your new business.
Sue

Congratulations!! What an incredible accomplishment for your husband and a tremendous relief for you to quit that route. I did that years ago, and I can certainly sympathize. Thank your husband for his service to our country. I'm extremely proud of all of our armed forces despite the bad press that's been circulating this past week.

Hello! Thank you for the congrats, I told Kevin that you were all happy for him. I am looking forward to not doing that stupid route anymore. I am just tired of getting ripped off. I was supposed to get a lot more $ for doing the route, but I never get what they promised. I think that's why I lost over 20 pounds in the last couple of months, but my doctor just complained that I wasn't eating. I eat, but my hours are screwing up my metabolic rate, making it impossible to gain my weight back. Probably why my INR has been off too. It will just be good when I am done with it. I will enjoy doing my daycare as well. I like kids, and learn so much from THEM! They are all so creative!

I am proud of Kevin...He made the top 98 % on his test which means that of all the 860+ people in the entire navy that took the exam for MA1, he did really well. Over half of the people made it in the navy, which is funny because only two of the guys from Kevin's command made itHe's not really one of their poster children either. He gets good evals but not like the ones that they are trying to push forward up the scale. I will keep you updated and let you know how we are doing.
