I realize this forum isn't "PC Helpdesk Central" however I put a ticket into my company's helpdesk and didn't get much help.. anyone familar with firewalls and accessing your employer from home remotely via terminal server? I used to be able to.. until I renewed my McAfee firewall Friday, thus upgrading the whole McAfee suite.. (had a la cart virus and firewall) now have the whole suite including anti-phishing, privacy etc..

I can log into my company's outlook express, but when I try to log into their "terminal" I get a VBScript error code: Remote Desktop Disconnected.. Specified Remote Computer Could Not Be Found..

my helpdesk said I probably need to "activate" it thru the firewall.. no clue what that means.. I did click on some screens in McAfee and tried to grant access to HTTPS and Port 3339 for remote.. still didn't work.. I saved a print screen of my error and will send it to my helpdesk tomorrow.. not holding my breath.. since I can't access remotely, they can't either to fix whatever I did or didn't do when I upgraded..

normally not a real issue, but my goals and objectives were changed today, work wise - I have a real busy 45 days ahead of me before end of qtr.. prefer to keep my stress levels down by doing some work from home in the evenings..

thanks for any advice..

Chris

Turn the firewall off and try it again.

There is an option to turn it off, I don't remember where exactly but give it a try. Depending on how things are set up it may need some additional ports so turning off the firewall should take care of it.

or shoot off an email to McAfee.

Recently on TV 'they' said most of us can fix our own computers. One of the things they said to do is when you add something and suddenly your unit isn't doing what it ought to do, un-add whatever it was and see if it works. That way you know what was causing it and can avoid that.

Have you run a scan disk? It tries to fix errors.

Ross could help if he was able. He recommended the following site to me and they helped me a great deal. Ross is a member there:

thanks for the help.. I tried cybertech's but didn't get any replies.. so I called my friends' son - 17 year old computer techi... he told me to uninstall McAfee (which gave me these problems when I upgraded recently) and use AVG's free anti-virus program and use windows xp firewall (instead of buying like I did) so I did all that, not only did my Windows XP return back to be validated (another problem that occured after upgrading, my validation disapeared and kept telling me I had stolen software) plus now I can access my remote server from work.. told him he was a genius and owed him lunch.. so i'm back to being a happy camper again.. and back to work, I swear, with EOY fast approaching, I have more and more meeting requests popping up on my email.. so when am I suppose to actually do my job???
