A couple of months ago, I advised Al that the data sheet on my most recent purchase of coumadin read as follows: "This medication is a blood thinner used to keep blood flowing smoothly and prevent the formation of blood clots" We decided this was not only misleading, but insuffincient. Al contacted my favorite pharmacy chain and educated them. I got a refill today and was curious if all the to-do had any effect. By golly it did. The first sentences of the data sheet now read: "This medication is a "blood thinner" (anticoagulent) that helps to keep blood flowing smoothly in your body. It is used to prevent and treat harmful blot clots. Preventing blood clots helps to reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack. Warfarin works by decreasing the activity of your body's natural blood clotting factors." Way to go Al - we'll take our small victories wherever we can get them. By the way, the data sheet also mentions that NSAIDS such as ibuprofen, naproxen or aspirin can increase the risk of bleeding. This is new info as well. They're making progress - now if I can only get them to keep Coumadin in stock - it may be time for me to give all the new pharmacists a lecture about the need to scream at the warehouse manager. Stocking out of certain drugs is simply not acceptable. , Chris
