Not AV surgery but hip. I met with a ortho today at Barbes Jewish where I had my AVR. I was disappointed that I could not get my hip surgery scheduled until the end of Feb. I guess that is the price you pay for getting a good surgeon. I will be glad to get through this and get rid of my crutches.

John:

What type of hip joint are you going to get? My sister had her first replacement in October 1998. She needs the other either replaced or repaired, but that's on hold now.

I think I've driven by Barnes Jewish when I've been to St. Louis. Is it near St. John Mercy & MoBap?
One of my nieces lives in Brentwood. I'm heading there on the 20th for 3 days.

I originally wanted a ceramic hip. However, my surgeon has recommended a Zimmer with a steel ball and a hightech plastic like socket. It is suppose to have minimal wear and less prone to the breaks that can happen with ceramic

John, good luck with your surgery. Im sure it will be good to lose the crutches.

Good luck, John, on the hip replacement.:) Barnes is a good facility, and my nephew, who works in the medical field, has an office nearby.
Marsha, Barnes is near the hotel where the reunion was held last spring. It's close to the zoo and Forest Park.

Now I am frustrated. I researched the hip device and it is the cheapest and only expected to last for 10-15 years. I called and that is the only one the dr. uses. I called another surgeon that I know uses a better one and now I have to either get a denial letter or approval letter from the VA since that is how I was first refered to him. Being vetrans day no one was in. So I am back to square one for now. I may not make it to 75 but if I do I don't want to be looking at another hip surgery.
