This is the quote from the end of the article

"Professor Goss has clarified our thinking when writing that ?A stroke is a catastrophic event, while a bleeding tooth socket is merely messy and usually easily controlled?.

So, if you need a tooth extraction and are on rat poison, stay on it. It?s good for you."

I believe that he is right on the money.

The history of warfarin is very well done in that peice, too. The guy has done his homework.

In philosophy, Ockham's Razor is a process of reducing something to its simplest terms. He does this very well.

Somebody on warfarin might want to use Ockham's Electric Razor!!

Dental Extraction and Rat Poison

Dental Extraction and Rat Poison

Good article. Too bad Professor Kamien misinforms the public in his second sentence which states: "Rat poison is the drug Warfarin, which is used in humans to thin the blood........." As recently as last Thursday my ophthalmologist referred to warfarin as a "blood thinner" when I saw him regarding the blood clot in my right eye which has caused me to permanently lose vision in that eye (Amaurosis Fugax).

There's a local PBS TV program produced here called "Cardia" - last night's program was on an experimental program here that would get people with Afib off coumadin (implantation of a mesh thingee that seals off a portioin of the atrium).

Anyway . . . the cardiologist who was interviewed went on at great length about "blood thinners" and how he only lets his patients use coumadin because it's so much better than generics and is the only brand that has a reliably high quality etc. etc. blah blah blah.

I wanted to jump right thru the screen and throttle him.

Dr. Kamien

I have had several email communications with Dr. Max Kamien. I told him about this website. Hopefully he will stop by and visit.

There is a Latin motto, "Illegitimi non carborundum" Loosely translated "Don't let the b - - - - - ds wear you down."
