Shoot, I let an anniversary pass by and forgot all about it. It was 25 years ago, happened on my 39th birthday, that I had a minor stroke that presaged the need for valve replacement. I was working out at the Union College field house in Schenectady when something went pop. A clot flew into the blood stream and lodged in the brain, probably caused by the swirls and eddies around the defective valve. I was fine in a few days with no residual problems, but from that point on, I was in waiting for valve replacement.

I didn't get the valve job until 1991, four years later, and in the mean time I ran some of the best races of my life. That period is when I ran my all-time personal records for everything from 800 meters to 15K. Now, 20+ years after VR, I have logged more than 20,000 additional miles and 250 races. Life is good.

Congrats again Jack. Sometimes it's good to forget out these anniversaries....
