My theraputic range for warfarin is 3.0 to 3.9, my last two INR's were 3.3. Recently I experienced, starting out with my ankle sore, slightly swollen, my whole foot is now swollen, and there is evidence of brusing and painful. It is my feeling that this is a result of my INR level. Anyone out there experience a similar situation? Do you think this is something I will have to deal with from time to time because of my theraputic range? I did not injure my ankle/foot.

Thanks for your response.

I wouldn't fool around with this. It would be a good idea to get it looked at and to call tomorrow morning. When were your last two Protimes done?

Definitely have it checked. It could be anything from a bug bite to a small clot to some type of bleeding issue. Please don't fool around with it.

Thank you Nancy and Gina for your response. Nancy, my last protime was Wednesday the 5th, it was 3.3 and prior to that 9/29, again 3.3. I agree, I should contact my pcp tomorrow, it has gone on too long.

Many thanks.

Get it looked at, more so to find out what is going on to cause this. I would suspect more some local recent overstress or injury, than because of the INR. Your range is not so high as to have random, unprovoked bleeds in the tissues without other factors.
(what is this, foot week on VR.com?)

Jeffp, thanks for your input. Yes, you are correct, my doctor feels that it is not due to coumadin. I had an x-ray today, the doctor prefered an MRI, but my insurance required the x-ray first. I do not think it is a stess fracture or something like that, I don't remember turning my ankle or any foot injury. At least the x-ray will rule out a broken bone or stress fracture. My guess the MRI will be next.

Thanks again for your comments.

Is your foot tissue sore in anyway? Wayne got cellulitis this past late summer, and it sounds a bit like that. Just an idea.-Marybeth
