We are back on the coumadin after a two year run with a tissue valve. Since he is still in the hospital from his BE infection he has been on heparin since the valve replacements.
A few days ago they started him back on coumadin and started him at twice the amount he usually needed to be at his range of 2.5- to 3. He shot up from that one dose by the next day.
I asked them to lower his dose when we started him up again and thankfully they listened. (He stopped the coumadin because he was back in the OR today so was put back on heparin.)
What is the time that coumadin reaches its highest amount? Is it 2 days? I should look it up but am too tired. I just want to be well informed and I want to home test if I can get them to let me.
