My mind's swimming a bit... Running on even less sleep than I usually am too.
Last night (or this morning, depending on your perspective, it was at 2:15 am) there was an EMS call for an address that's about 1/4 of a mile up the road from me, woman having difficulty breathing....
The dispatcher said.
Well she was having difficulty breathing because her heart had stopped.
She "coded" as they say, heart attack, and there was an assistant chief, the paid firefighter, and me...
Well I got a lot of experience "bagging a patient" last night.... She had a stoma too which made things "interesting" and eventually, the paramedic from the ambulance service said to try using a tube that can connect to the bag to run into the stoma directly.
Yeah, that worked MUCH better.
I ended up not going in the back of the ambulance for the ride to the hospital, the paid firefighter took over for me as we were trying to get her in and it made more sense for him to go since he was a paramedic and I'm not.
I and the assistant chief got the fire engines (rescue truck and chief's car) back to the fire hall then I went to the hospital to pick up the paid guy and bring him back.
On the way in, they got her intubated (after several attepts at the house) and were able to get a pulse going, then blood pressure readings.
I think that counts as a save.
Dunno how she did after getting to the ER.
Got home a little over an hour later, took another two hours to finally fall asleep...
That was pretty intense.
Good stuff.
