The old guy is doing really well.

He's walking a good 1/2 mile every day - more if the weather is being kind. He's eating well although he's been good at sticking with the diet and has lost a whopping 15.5lb since surgery (still got 25 to go).

And I know he's feeling better because he's getting itchy to start doing things too - his latest is to keep wandering out to our wood shed and just standing there shaking his head! The weather up here is still cold and we're burning wood at a fast and furious rate.

Well, I know this man from old so I had to lock his beloved Stihl chainaws away. But he tried to pull a fast one and during a trip out with a friend of his, he came back with a Black and Decker cordless chainsaw. He said he bought it for me.

Anyone who knows me knows that I don't do the wood thing - I'm management! lol So - while he was in the shower, I removed the battery pack and hid it.

They're still tweaking his Coumadin - the increased exercise has caused his INR to drop but they're testing him weekly and increasing the dose a little each time. I'll post over on Anti-Coagulation forum about that too.

Sound like Peter is doing fine. And the increased exercise is doing as expected. I think you've learned enough here that you know to expect his INR to drop with increased exercise. :)
Keep us updated on his continued progress.

Your good ;) Mean, but good :p Hiding the battery pack, he sure can't pull one over you LOL

Happy to hear everything is going well for Peter (well until he finds the battery pack missing :D) and the increase of the Coumadin is being done slowly and your testing weekly.

Your both doing so well, your doing something right...keep it up.

What good news to hear how well you both are doing.
This all came on you so sudden and shockingly, that your progress is terrific.

Keep up the good work. Wishing you both the very best.

Thanks for the update. It sounds like Peter is progressing well, but continue to keep him honest as it's easy to become too bold and over do it.

Glad to hear everything is going so well. You keep on him to take it easy, and tell him that you'll call in reinforcements if needed. Good job

hiding the battery pack. Keep up your vigilance. Good luck & God Bless.

Bumping this up with another report

Bumping this up with another report

Saw the surgeon again today (5 weeks post-op tomorrow). Also had another EKG and that again, showed the old guy in normal sinus rhythm.

So! Got an echocardiogram next month and another EKG and if both are fine then Peter can come off the Coumadin at the end of the 3 months.

He's followed his diet faithfully and has lost 17lb since surgery - everyone was pleased with that (20lb to go). He's also increased his exercise although the PNW weather has not been kind (on target for the 5th wettest May in history).

Thankfully, he can now start driving again so I won't have to put up with constant commentary about the differences between my "British" driving and the American way! (ungrateful little toad! lol).

Everyone is delighted at well he's done.

Definition of INR
INR: International normalized ratio, a system established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee on Thrombosis and Hemostasis for reporting the results of blood coagulation (clotting) tests.

Corrine: Wonderful to hear how well Peter is doing. Congratulations to you both and hope his recovery continues just as uneventfully.
