I remember a discussion about this medicine not to long ago on this forum. Is this medicine dangerous? I am taking it but Dr. says to stop after the prescription is all gone.

From what my boyfriend Jim has been told, amioderone has some really nasty side effects in the long-term, but if used for only a few months can be preferable to other anti-arrhythmic drugs (especially soon after heart surgery).

Ronda,

I took it for 3 weeks after coming home and then stopped it (my surgeon only wanted me on it for 3 weeks). I had a-fib one time while I was still in the operating room and not once since then. This drug prevents a-fib, and I was on it as a precautionary measure. It does have side effects but I didn't experience any. I think the drug is safe for short-term use.

I hope you will get off it as quickly as possible. It has a very long half-life so it will be in your system for awhile once it is discontinued.

It can have dangerous side effects so please go read up on it. Probably that's covered in Nancy's post - I didn't go read the article she suggests.
