Am I Too Sensitive???

People seem to be staring at my scar more that summer is here and less clothes are worn. A friend said I should join the local Naturalist Club and that should draw attention away from my scar. She is a member and says that for the most part scars are ignored.

Any thoughts??

I am reminded of when I used to play raquetball when I lived in NJ. I was in the whirlpool and another woman was staring at my scar. I finally asked her about the staring and she said, "I noticed the scar on your chest". I acted astonished and said, "Oh my gosh - what scar, where"? After a moment of silence, we all started laughing.

Cooker - I am all for naturalists so, if you are really serious, hey - give it a try. However, you might feel even worse if people do notice your scar as opposed to other parts of the anatomy.

Cooker... Yeah, you're too sensitive, but you are also very normal. "Zippers" are now fairly common. When I got my long "Y" scar I was very self-conscious and am still reluctant to go out without a t-shirt. Its only a BIG deal to me, not anyone else.

Hot Springs

Hot Springs

These hot springs are about three miles up the road from us. You wouldn't have to join anything. Just show up and hike in.

"Preview: A collection of natural hot springs on the side of a steep hill, forming several soaking pools. Heavily visited, Spence has had a reputation as a hangout for nudists. A very popular set of hot springs, Spence usually has several people partaking. The water is about 100 degrees F, so it?s not extremely hot, but it is invigorating nonetheless. A small waterfall can even be found in the lower springs, which also may contain up to three other pools, depending upon how the water has been diverted. From the lower pools you can continue uphill, following the water and a small trail. Several other pools are located alongside the small creek formed by the hot-spring water. All of the pools are fantastic and set in a beautiful location. They are easy to reach, hence the large number of visitors. Primitive. The only improvement has been the construction of several rock pools. Otherwise, the springs are in a pristine state."

I have been noticing it more myself, I think its the time of year....last night I was at the deli on my break, and this 30 some odd year old guy gawked at my chest/scar for the full 15-20 minutes I was there waiting....
I dont even bother trying to cover it up anymore, that pretty much takes a turtleneck, which I refuse to wear when its this nice out (heat doesnt do me any good, at all).....I've given up on the prospect of people being polite, and Im not very fond of making a deal of things in public (IE confronting the jacka$$ who was staring at my chest yesterday, Im just learning to take it in stride, and get the hell over it.....

but no, your not more sensitive, people stare, its human nature.......did I ever mention that sometimes human nature really pi$$es me off!

6 months post surgery when I started swimming again, I was conscious that my scar may have scared small children. Fortunately 1 year on it had faded and with my regrown chest hair it is very difficult to see. Some people I have run into at the pool that I see infrequently didn't even notice that I had had surgery 1 year post operation.

I like to show my scar off. It shows that I have been through something and I am still more active then those lazy mcdonalds eating cake and ice cream stuffing a... uhm... well, I like to show mine off.

I am not "unproud" of my scar but I am a bit more vain about it as I get older. It was more of a conversation piece when I was in my thirties because, "you are too young to have had OHS" and people wanted to hear the story. Now, like Cooker, they just stare and really don't want to take the time to hear the story. I don't intentionally cover it up but I don't wear much low cut clothing (another older age choice) so it is not very visible.

Yes, Gina, the scars do start out as quite a conversation piece in the beginning.

Post-op I made sure and flashed everyone who stopped in to say hello....
Did I mention yet that I don't wear a bra

My poor hubby was wondering if I would every keep my shirt down again!!!
