I have been really happy with my over all speedy recovery, certainly not close to the workout activity level I was 6 weeks ago but I'm really progressing nicely.

My surgeon told me last week that at 6 weeks I could start running again (he knows how much I want to get back to it) well the weather was just so beautiful here today and I was really feeling like I could move on from power walking to jogging.

So I gave it a try and sure enough I ran my first 5K since surgery in 30:36!
Still about 5 minutes slower than my pre op runs but man I feel great.

I don't want to over do it though so I'm going to take the weekend off and just stay active in other ways.

I'm running the Walt Disney World half marathon on January 9th of this coming year so this is a real confidence booster in regards to that long run.:D

Very impressive how quickly people are recovering these days. At 6 weeks I could only run about 100 yards the first time out. It took another 6 weeks before I could run a whole mile.

Excellent job! PM me! I'll be in Disney in January doing the Goofy (half and full)! Love to meet up!

Good for you. Nice base to start working from getting ready for Disney. Take the rest days and when things aren't looking good, slow down.

that's so awesome! i'm just 3 weeks out and stopped running last may when the docs said it was time for surgery and time to cool down on the physical activity. i'm really itching to get back to it and knowing that you ran a 5k at 6 weeks is really encouraging!!!!!! congrats!

Thank you all for your words of encouragement. I'm just glad to be able to get back to what makes me feel normal and healthy even though it is at a slightly reduced pace (for now;))

I ran another 5K yesterday and came in at 29:46, almost a whole minute better than last week!

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Phil 4:13 :D

Amazing, Cscapes! Great recovery and running..you must be in great shape! Just make sure you have your rest/recovery periods when you need them in between runs.

UPDATE: I have been running a 5K every other day since week 6. I have been steadily getting faster each time & finished my run this past Friday in 27:28!

I'll be running a 10K tomorrow as this week will be my 8th since surgery and I'm anxious to see what I can do at this point.;)

Sounds great... And i thought i was doing good walking..lol. I need a walking partner...its hard to get motivated, when you dont have anyone to walk with. Please continue the great work..its very inspirational.

Congratulations on a fantastic recovery. At six weeks I think I was just managing to walk around the block.
