I've been on Allegra & also on Claritin (back when Claritin was a prescription medication). The thing that has really worked for me over the years has been good old OTC benadryl. I forgot to ask the anti coagulation clinic folks whether benadryl is OK with warfarin? So here I am sitting here at 5 a.m. with my horrible sinus headache and my stuffed up nose unable to sleep bit scared to use any of my benadryl. They did tell me anti histamines were OK. I looked up benadryl (diphenhydramine) on the net, and it is an anti histamine. But I'm still nervous about taking any unless I know for sure it is OK.

Both my cardiologist and my pharmacist recommend Benadryl for me, for allergies and for difficulty sleeping.

Can't say it's my favorite, but I do take it now and then ;)

Benadryl is OK with warfarin.

The two problems with Benadryl are:
1. Sleepiness - it is the ingredient in many non-prescription sleeping pills.
2. In older men, it can cause difficulty in urinating.

Thanks, Al & Tim. Am aware of the sleepiness factor (I don't take it in the day time or when I need to drive or anything).

What do you all take for during the day? I dont want the sleepy factor with most Allergy medication. I also cannot take anything with Pseudoephedrine (Sudifed) in it as it makes my heart race.

I have heard that regular Claritin does not have Pseudoephedrine in it but does it work ok with coumadin?

Dont they use benedryl for some caths? My John did..to relax him.. Yaps
