I am so sick from allergies. I can't breathe, my nose and eyes runs constantly. I had some Clartin D and took one of them and had a terrible reaction. I broke out in a cold sweat and got real shakey. This lasted for about two hours. I've always been able to take this for allergies, but I did notice after I had already taken it that it said to check with your doctor before taking if you have heart disease of diabetes. Well, I have both. (STUPID! STUPID!) I need to be more careful. What do you recommend to take for allergies? I would appreciate suggestions. I do plan to call my cardio tomorrow.

Hi glenda,
I have always had a hard time with claritin d. I can handle plain claritin without the d. It makes me feel very weird like I am in a tunnell and very sensitive to sounds and lights...

Our family is all taking allevert for allergies. It seems to be working pretty well. I'm not sure if it would better for you or not. When you talk to your cardio you could ask him if allevert would be better.

Hi Glenda-

Joe can take Allegra but not Allegra D. The decongestant part of it is bad for him.

I take Allegra and Singulair for allergies and Advair for asthma.

Hi Glenda,

My cardio said to never take anything that has a decongestant in it. When I asked what I could take for allergy symptons he told me. Claritin for over the counter or he could prescribe the perscription Clarinex (he said it's the same thing) for a fraction of the cost. It hasn't effected my INR readings, so that is what I'm currently using. You could ask you're doctor about that, since I don't know what other meds your on, that may effect an interaction. I hope I was able to help. Good Luck!

I'm a Claritin and Nasonex (spray) user - every day. I use psuedaphed (decongestant) occasionally with no problems - had not heard the decongestant caution.

Claritin is wonderful! Prior to taking it I would itch anywhere near cats. Now we have a cat that sleeps (sits and stares at us all night) next to my head.

I tried Allegra for a few months when Clatitin went over the counter. During that time I developed a prostate inflammation. Since that is a possible side effect, I switched back to Claritin. It might have been a coincidence, but not worth further investigation.

I used Flonase for several years. Nasonex seems to work better for me.

I take Claritin and Nasonex first thing in the morning, but wait until after I run. Actually I found running to be a natural nasal drainer.

Has anyone found the generice OTC Claritin in a bottle? Tearing apart those crazy paper/foil packs is a pain. Once of these days I'm going to cut myself on those things.

Thanks guys for all you wonderful advice. I just got off the phone with my cardio and he said people with heart problems should never take anything with a decongestant in it. He said plain Claritin would be fine. He does want to see me because from the way I described how I have been feeling, he thinks it is time for the AVR. I was hoping to put this off until June but I may not make it. It's not that I dread the surgery itself, it's that my youngest daughter is moving back into the area the end of May, she'll be traveling on business in May. I live on a farm and there is so much to do this time of the year, grass to mow, flowers to tend to, vegetables to plant, etc. I wanted to get all that done before I had the surgery so I could just sit back and watch it grow. (maybe water it once in a while) The cardio is supposed to call me tomorrow to set up tests to be run before the surgery. I'll be sure to take all my questions typed up and with me. I have soooo many, thanks to all of you.

Hi Susan, where in Missouri does your mom live? I mow about 2 acres. I brush hogged about 43 acres last year because this farm was my husband's dad's and he died in January of last year so we bought and moved to the farm in June. By then all the fields had gone to ragweed, so they all had to be mowed. We want to buy some cows in time. We probably could rent the fields out but then you have to put up with people coming and going all the time and we kinda of like our privacy.

I'm sure I'll have people from church that will come out and help me take care of the flowers and garden. My kids will help too although they all three work and have families of their own to take care of. My problem is that I hate to depend on anyone. I've always been a take charge kind of person and it's hard to realize that I might need help.

A goat, that might work. LOL :) :) :) I'm sure my blue heeler would love him! I had goat's when I was growing up on a farm. They were a mess! They would stand on top of the cars. They also ate all my grandma's flowers one summer. Funny, but those goat's disappeared one day. I wondered at the time what happened to them! LOL :D :D

Allegra 180mg once per day has been working great for me this spring. I had my surgery 5 weeks ago and have sneezed twice since then...pretty good considering everything here in NC is lime green with pollen right now. I've had some luck with Clarinex, but it doesn't seem to last the full 24hrs like Allegra. I don't take anything with decongestents anymore (due more to to my prostatitis than my heart surgery).
