Hey everyone! I am Heather, Brett's daughter... He just wanted me to let you all know that he has made it out of surgery ok and that he is doing well... My dad is in a lot of pain right now, but I am sure that is normal...Anyway, thank you all for all of your prayers and concern...I am sure that my dad will try and fill you in more when he gets home.

Thank you for the update!

Please pop in and let us know of any changes, also let him know were waiting for his return. Hopefully recovery will be uneventful.

Hey Heather,
Glad to hear your dad is doing well. Thanks for the update. Please keep us posted.
Let him know that he is still in my thoughts and prayers.
Take Care

Hello Heather,

Sorry to hear your dad is in a 'lot of pain'. Has he brought this to the attention of his nurse(s)? Pain medications typically control incision / chest pain to a more tolerable level of 'discomfort'.

Muscle and lung / chest wall pain can be a nuisance but is also controllable. It is BEST to keep ahead of the pain with medication. Having to wait for the medication to 'catch up' is NOT pleasant. His nurses should be able to make him 'comfortable'.

Heather - tell your dad to speak up to the nurses, fuss if needed, about the pain. After this is all over, he won't recall the pain - just that he had some. We thank you for coming in to tell us - we always want to know. Please give him our best and prayers for you all.

See you soon, Brett.

Heather - thanks so much for being so thoughtful in letting us know how his surgery went. We always wait for news. Give your Dad our best and tell him we look forward to a good report from him.

Glad your dad is doing well. He should try and stay ahead of the pain. I tried to stick to a schedule and ask for it whether I was in pain at the moment or not. It's hard to keep the time straight, but the nurses won't bring it before it's "time" anyway. Hopefully he's not being brave, i.e. not asking for the max amount that will make him feel better. If he doesn't like what they are giving him, he should ask for something different - they have lots of choices in pain meds. Hope he feels better - and every day is better than the last.

If his shoulder muscles are sore, a massage will help a lot, even just gentle rubbing in the area.

Hi Heather....

Please tell your Dad we're all glad he's doing well. If he needs meds for pain, tell him to GET THEM, NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES. There's no reason he should be hurting badly.

Thanks for posting.

Heather, that's really good -- but I'd like to reiterate what the other people have written about pain management.

Years ago, when I was having surgery (serious but not OHS) the nurses told me: "Ask for the pain medication as soon as you start feeling the pain, don't wait and try to tough it out." At the risk of being tagged as a wimp and a whiner, I've done that ever since.

Best wishes for you and your dad.

Thanks for writing, Heather.

You'll see your dad improve every day.

Tell your Dad we are all happy about his successful surgery..and take all the meds he can..:p :p :p Bonnie

He needs alot of rest...But he will be as good as new b4 you know it...

Hi Heather,

Thanks for the update on your DAD! We're glad the surgery was a success! As the others have said before me, tell him to let the nurses know he's in pain so he gets some meds. No one should go through OHS without pain management! Keep us posted.

Great news!!!
Heather, get your dad some meds if he needs them . You definately want him to be comfortable. I'm sure by the time he reads this he will be doing better. I'm so glad all went well!

Heather (I like your name)

Hooray Brett !!!

Hooray Brett !!!

Thanks for the update Heather. Mr. Brett, ask for the pain meds as needed. No heros here. The fact you had OHS is enough to warrant their use!!! You will be surprised at how soon you will be feeling better....Keep us posted...We care....:)
