A lot of us on Warfarin drink alcohol. No problem!

Alcohol-free wine is a bit like breaking into someone's house and not stealing anything.

its worse ... its like stealing those compressed ricebubble looking patties that look like polystyrene and then eating them

As far as I know it's the alcohol effect on the liver that increases warfarins effects and thus your INR goes up, my father was a heavy binge drinker and it never affected his INR as he's also a valver, the first time I had a few beers after OHS my INR went up to 3.5, that was when I was new to self testing so tested 3 days after to check the effect, I tested on a friday , drank on the saturday , tested monday, where as with a week in between I doubt I would have noticed it.
I think body size/type and metabolism would be the factors if alcohol is going to effect INR and by how much. Drink and test regularly.

Does anyone know if there is any adverse interaction between Alcohol free wine/ NA beer and warfarin?

there is but its quite mild and varies from person to person. If you drink consistently (I tend to have 2 drinks [either a beer or red wine] most nights) then even IF it has an influence I can factor it in. There are heaps of discussions here about this.

My MD has said to limit alcohol because I am on warfarin. However if a person drinks non-alcohol wine/beer does it mean you can drink without worry about affecting INR?

what does "limit" mean .. like we all have limits ... one bottle of whiskey a night is a limit ... Only one guy I know does infinity and beyond:

your MD sounds like a wowser trying to get you to share his "seat outside the school principles office waiting for the cane" (because misery loves company) or an outdated bugger who knows nothing about warfarin (wait ... 99% of MD's know diddly about warfarin ...).

Personally I've found that consuming an entire bottle of red by my self raises my INR a bit ... like from 2.6 to 3.2 ... but then its back down the next day.

So if you get really stuck in then you can use that as the reason to lay about the couch all day "NO, its not a hangover darling, I'm just taking care while my INR is high"

but to me the answer is just drink in a sensible manner with due regard to the rest of your health. Drink in a manner that's ok in social company (and don't socialise with drunks ;-)

I've noticed a small spike the morning after a few glasses of wine. Hard to say for sure that it was directly related. In general, consistency should keep the playing field level. Live your like, adjust the dose.
