Got my date through - am reporting on Wednesday 27th for the admission and operation is to be on Thursday 28th. Only 10 days to go...

I'm having an AVR and double By-pass at the Oxford Radcliffe, UK. Having met with the surgeon - Ravi Pillai, he advised a tissue valve (Carpentier Edwards bovine) considering my circumstances and age of 62. Similar, I gather, to Robin Williams who just had a Bovine AVR a couple of months ago at 57 .... He did not look too bad on Letterman's show!

Thanks to all of you for the kind advice over the previous six months - this site has been a tremendous support to me - I feel part of a very special group of people and do not have to go through this alone. Valve choice has been a difficult decision for me and this site has helped enormously in weighing up the pros' and cons' for me personally.

I hope I'm able to be as helpful to others (post-surgery) as you all have been to me.

Alan

my surgery is on the same day as yours alan. and if you are anything like me than you are pretty stressed out right now. best wishes. i know that i can not wait to get this over at this point. it hasn't been easy having to sit at home and try to keep busy so that my mind doesn't start wonering back to how fast the surgery is coming up. thankfully my father will be at the hospital when i am done with surgery which will be nice to see family there when i wake up.

Thanks everyone, I have a good feeling about this, although I will probably not know to much about the 28 May. looking forward to the summer for recuperation, lazing around under the apple tree in the garden, not forgetting the exercise program. I wish you all a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Alan

Glad to hear you have a date Alan. Also glad to hear that you have a good feeling about it...that's definitely a plus!

Will be thinking of you on the 28th.

I know everything will go just fine - I'll be there to make sure it does - armed with all the excellent advice on this site. Seems as though there will be three people undergoing surgery on the 28th from valve replacement.com - look forward to the updates from everyone soon...
