April,
Ever since my avr in '97 I too have had bouts of super ventricular tachycardia. They started about 2 weeks after my surgery. I now only drink decaf tea, coffee and soda. It started out happening quite frequently and lasting at least 5 minutes, but over the years it doesn't happen as often or last as long - Thank G-d. It really was very frightening. Even now I still feel uneasy when it happens. My dr said that about 25% of the people who have heart surgery get svt. Another dr told me that there are a few ways to deal with it to try and put your heart back to a normal rhythm. This is what has worked for me - coughing real hard, bearing down and squeezing as if you are having a bowel movement or putting your hands and arms (and/or your face) in ice cold water. These are things that can jolt your heart back into normalcy usually. You probably wouldn't have trouble with decaf green tea. What else was in the bottled green tea - sometimes they put other herbs in it? You know that sometimes for no reason the tachycardia will happen.
