Matts INR now dropped to 1.7 his diet is excellent.... he is back to 5mgs od Coumadin but tonight is his last dose.

What I wanted to ask, is they want Matt to do 70 mg of Lovenox twice a day starting tomorrow. He sorta agreed but now since receiving the needles, feels differently. I just want to know your opinion on Lovenox vs Heparin.

Matt has a history of bleeding after surgery but this is a cath on Monday. We spent 5 weeks in the hospital after a simple walk through the park gallbladder removal. To say the least I am a bit worried.

I read back through a search Lynn and I did and neither one looks good. But I am a mom not a specialist.

Thanks

As far as effectiveness goes IV heparin and Lovenox (given in the abdomen) are about equal. With IV heparin you have to be in the hospital. Heparin in the abdomen may be as good but it is less predictable.

The best way I have found to give Lovenox:
1. Do not blow the little bubble out. It is insignificant. The dose is measured exactly. If you blow the bubble out it causes much more bruising because the Lovenox is on the outside of the needle. If you wipe the needle it removes the silicone lubricant and it feels like a harpoon going in.
2. Hold an ice cube on the area until it starts to sting. Pinch up the skin where the ice cube was. Inject into the pinched area. Immediately after taking the syringe out put the ice cube back on until it stings again.
3. Do not rub the area even to dry it. Dab the melted ice water off with a paper towel. Rubbing will cause bad bruising.

please keep matt (and jeanne in your prayers)

please keep matt (and jeanne in your prayers)

Matt is having his cath tomorrow,Jeanne is nervous since matt has been relatively well for a while and we are hoping things stay that way for many more years. he is being admitted today for the iv hep, please keep them in your prayers that the cath goes well, he doesn't need any surgery in the near future and there is no problems w/ bleeding ect.
They don't have a laptop, so I would be happy to post updates as i hear from Jeanne and /or pass on any messages when i talk to her, Thanks lyn
