Al - any insight on Mobic? I'm having Pericarditis without effusion and Aleve was helping, but not enough. Cardio gave me Mobic. Of course it says to consult with your doctor if you're on Warfarin, but what's the real scoop?

BTW - had an INR today and I'll be interested to see where it is. Also did CBC to check Platelets and a CBC. I've been taking 2-4 Aleve a day for about a week and have several long lasting, spreading bruises - some of which I know the origin of, others I don't! No nosebleeds or anything though. I expect my INR to be okay, as it was 3 weeks ago, but the platelets might be abnormal, which is what is causing the bruising I guess. I know that this has been a long running debate so I'll let everyone know what my body says. I ate spinach last night just in case!

I don't really know much about Mobic. It is not very popular around here. The FDA requires the same warning on all drugs in the NSAID family whether they have been shown to cause GI bleeding or not.

I don't think that it will do anything to the INR. I think the risk is a bleeding ulcer that can occur without warning.

I'll be interested in learning about your experience.

Isn't Mobic a COX-2 inhibitor, in the same class as Vioxx? With all the cardiac claims being made against Vioxx (win or lose), I personally, would stay away from them. I've had enough grief already.

No. Mobic is an old NSAID. There were only three Cox-2s - Celebrex, Bextra and Vioxx.

That's why I should have never left my PDR at the office! Something in the back of my mind rang a Cox-2 bell on Mobic. It was stuck in there that the oxicams were Cox-2 derivatives. Maybe it was just that they cost about the same - around $3 a pill I remember.
Thanks Al, I'll blame it on "pumpheadedness". :D

Thanks anyway.

After a week of 2-4 Aleve each day, my INR was 2.8. It was 2.5 3 weeks ago, so no significant change.

Guess I'm bruising cause I'm clumsy!
