Okay- released in 5 days from Hospital. Couldnt pee last day there so they put foley back in to drain me. Got home -no problems peeing during the day...cannot pee at night. Went to ER got Foley put back in and waited two days to see Urologist. Urologist removed Foley and I peed fine for him in office. Get home ------SAME Issue. I cannot pee very much at night and it hurts to peee during the day. Im on Flomax...is my bladder still asleep or what? Its really starting to effect my mind. Im 10 days post op now and feeling great except this. Did anybody else have long term "pee" issues??? Thoughts??

Thanks so Much!!!

Also, gave Urologist my meds list and he informed me those pills wouldnt have an effect on my bladder. Im off all pain pills (minus Tylenol)

I know the Foley catheters can cause irritation and I assume swelling in the urethra. I remember one time when an inexperienced nurse jammed the Foley into Joe and it caused bleeding, so who knows what they do once you are out on the operating table. And you have had a Foley inserted a couple of times, no doubt increasing the possibility of irritation and swelling.

But, on the other hand, the urologist must have looked at the situation and looked for any signs of irritation, and I am assuming he checked for an infection.

But one never knows, maybe he didn't check those things out.

I know Justin has had trouble after a couple of his surgeries, right in the beginning, with burning, or not being able to go, but once he went a few times he was ok. It seems odd that you can go during the day, but not at night, that doesn't seem like it would be because of irritation from the catheter, or it would be the same any time of the day or night.
I do know from Justin, the harder he TRIED to go (so he wasn't re-cathed) the harder it was for him to go. because he would get so tensed up.

Your bladder is not still asleep. Sounds like you may have a UTI. If you're having difficulty and/or pain urinating, I would call urologist now. Like Nancy, I would think he would have checked for an infection, too, but painful urination sounds very much like a UTI.

Agree with Luana, call your urologist and tell him what is going on and make sure you get in to see him. Not being able to pee is something that absolutely has to be addressed. If urine is lingering in your bladder because you can't get it all out, that makes your bladder a great playing field for bacteria to set up shop. Sounds like a UTI to me too.

UTI was negative. I too find it weird that at night is different than daytime. Now i think Im just getting mental about the whole thing....ARRRGGHHHH

Hey, sometimes weird things happen. If it's simply not going to straighten around, keep on the Urologist about it until he finds the cause.

As to the Flomax - was this started recently in response to the current problem or do you have a history of enlarged prostate?

Was that result from a test done on Friday? I'm wondering if you have one now but did not then. It's really not good if you can't pee at all and if you haven't today, a trip to the ER is in order.
