Well, I took my first dose of Advair this morning and my second an hour ago. My back is almost hurting more than before. When I am seated and twist my trunk around as though I'm looking at someone behind me, the pain just shoots through my upper back. This has always been a problem but it has been very pronounced today. Is this normal for asthmatic symptoms? Are my airways just opening up perhaps? Thanks for any advice.

I found when I first started it (I was in the midst of a bad asthma attack at the time), I coughed up some accumulated phlegm. After a couple of days, that subsided. So maybe that's what's going on in your chest, but I never had back problems from asthma or Advair.

Did you get a peak flow meter to see how you're progressing?

Hello, Nancy,
It's always so nice to hear from you. My upper back and chest have hurt/burned intermittently for over a year. There doesn't seem to be any relief. After taking my first dose this morning, my back pain seemed almost worse while I was teaching today. Don't know why, unless he's treating me for asthma and it's really something else perhaps heart-related; that worries me also. No, I won't have a follow up lung test for another month. :(

Well, I hope it improves. Advair takes several days to get the full effect. I also hope your pain is not heart related. Good luck.

Hi Sherry

Hi Sherry

Hi There Sherry,

I just read your post and felt that I should pass on some information that I was told by my nurses...I too have asthma, along with all 23000 other ailments, and the one thing I was told by the nurses is to make sure you take no more than what is prescribed because there is a component in advair that can cause real bad heart problems or can be fatal if you take more than what is absolutely needed. It is also the same component that Seravent has. I took seravent for a while, but it really gave me a run for the money, so I am now on advair, which seems to be better, although I make sure and take only the prescribed amount. (I know that a person wouldn't take more than prescribed anyway, but I thought that I should share what my docs and nurses have told me.P I hope you stay well and take care, Harrybaby666:D :D :D
