When I open VR and I see that New Posts are showing a large increase in replies to a thread that looked possibly contentious when I last viewed it, I am always a little dismayed.

Monday through Friday, we have members headed to surgery. If we would channel the excess energy expended in a heated thread towards offering a supportive post to these members, I believe we would more likely achieve what Hank intended when he created VR.com

I'm with you, Mary. While I enjoy a good conversational dust up as much as anyone, I don't think this is the place for it.

Jim

Jim,
I would like to see equal time given to members going into surgery and post recovery.

I don't mind the dust ups as long as they don't overshadow Hank's primary goal of support and information.

Maybe controversial subjects should be started on nonsurgery days?:D:p
Or if you post to a heated subject, you take time to post well wishes to members headed to surgery? You know . . . kind of a one on one type of deal.:p

Thanks Mary .... I posted yesterday to that "now closed" thread that there were 4 people that could care less about the crap being spread on that thread and was ignored .... Lets remember why we are here.

I too think that it's important to post supportive messages to those heading to surgery or who are facing tough issues. I have other venues where I can post on controversial subjects and so I prefer not to do it here. However, perhaps this forum is the only outlet for some members to express themselves forcefully  so I guess as long as there is a balance and no one actually gets killed :D we'll be OK.

Cheers,

Jim

I read that, and I meant to reply to your post.
You were absolutely correct!.:)

Mary,
You said exactly what I was thinking.
Right on!!!

Thanks Mary! Another thing folks could do out of respect for our community as a whole, is use PMs for arguments if they feel they can't let it go. I used to react to controversial posts. Now I PM the person I agree with to offer my support, but I don't encourage the argument. I try to avoid the controversial threads. It is a little like watching your step on a sidewalk. And more importantly, as you said, I find it is a misdirection of my energy. Purpose and direction are the priorities. Thanks for the reminder! Your valve brother, Brian

Brian, I am going to take your admirable approach. I am totally against intentionally posted threads of controversy. Some love that stuff; I don't. I however don't feel that I am right and they are wrong, just different. I'm turning a new leaf and refuse to post at all on threads I deem to be fishing for reactions. I do hope that vr.com doesn't become a welcome home for political debate, but if it does I'm steering clear. :D

Jim, Thanks for being a part of our community! Wise, your name says it all! Your valve bro, Brian
