I'm not 100% sure what this is but in the center of my incision I have what appears to be a stitch coming through the skin. I noticed it about a week ago as a black speck and left it alone since there is no redness or drainage. Since then it has emerged a little more. Is it even possible to have a stitch (mine were all under the skin and supposedly dissolving) not dissolve and surface like this? I'm 7 weeks post op. With all of the experience here I wondered if by any chance someone had experienced something similar.

Oh yeah - quite common. I have always gone to the doctor and he simply wipes the surface, pulls out the stitch a little, clips it and it disappears back under the skin. A little creepy (IMO) but solves the problem.

Some members have done this procedure themselves but I am more comfortable with the doctor taking a look see.

I had one also. It was about an inch long, and looked like light, clear fishing line. It was not on my AVR, but where the doc had taken out the vein for the bypass. I snipped it shorter, and it disappeared under my skin.

me, too, except mine was in the ankle area where they took out the saphenous vein for bypasses. Actually two stitches were working out and infecting. required two visits to my pcp for removal. Just keep an eye on it, but it should be ok. if not, you know what to do. Blessins........

I had one protrude from just beneath the end of my scar. Grew to about an inch. I positioned my body such that it was as long as possible, then just snipped with scissors right next to the skin. When I straightened up, it disappeared beneath the skin, and never reappeared (thank goodness!).

Thanks everyone. You guys are always such an amazing resource in matters big and small like this one.

I am 6 weeks post op, and had one at the very top of my scar. I kept messing with it until I went to the doctor and the nurse pulled it up and snipped it. She said they would get better on their own....but I just couldn't leave mine alone as it looked like a bone stickin out.
