A Rough Week

Sorry, this is a whine thread.

My wife, Cindy, has been sick for a couple weeks with a sinus infection; she's some better. Last week I was diagnosed with Bronchitis. I'm not better yet, and feeling pretty rough.

My two sisters from Northern Indiana came Saturday evening to visit for a week. They're staying with mom. Sunday afternoon they had to take mom to the ER; she was having chest pains.

This happened to mom about a year ago. Same result so far; nothing indicates a heart attack and they don't know why she's having the pain. They're still running tests on her enzyme levels. We'll find out today what those said.

Previous to this we spent a week at the hospital with mom when she had bronchitis that went into pneumonia.

Getting haggard with it all. If you think of it, please send prayers for the whole lot.

What a dark period of time for you and your family. I think we've all had those times when we thought it would never let up. You and the family will be in my prayers that the clouds will lift and some sunshine will show through.

Has your mom been checked for gallbladder problems? That can feel like a heart attack. I had that happen, and I did spend a couple of days on the heart floor. It wasn't until I had another attack that gallbladder was diagnosed. I can't answer the question about why my previous doctor did not check right away for gallbladder, which should have been done asap.

I will add my prayers for Cindy and you and your mom. Sounds like you are going through a rough time -- hope and pray all will improve soon.

I hope you don't mind if I add a few whines of my own. My wife has the head and chest congestion thing too. Did a week of antibiotics but doesn't seem to have helped much at all. I have tried over and over to get her to go back to doc but she won't, so far at least.

Meanwhile, this will seem trivial, but I have having a hard time keeping my son's 8-month-old chocolate lab when the weather is rainy and drizzly day after day. She won't settle down inside, and I can't crate her 24/7. A while ago, trying to dry her off while she squirmed to escape from me (and wow is she strong!) I had a dizzy spell. I think it must be stress --- I just need to take some deep breaths.

Anyway, my problems are very very minor compared to many other folks.' It does help to vent some. I hope you don't mind that I borrowed a little of your space instead of starting my own whine thread.

Wise, I hope things improve for you all and that the docs keep checking your Mom's symptoms for an answer. Maybe something is causing her undue stress.

SuperBob, I empathize with you too....the dog rescue that I volunteer for receives many "teenage" labs. They are huge work. Mine was 19 mths when I got her, it was incredibly draining....now she is 13 and sleeps on my feet most of the day....heaven.

Tell Mrs. Superbob that SHE needs to listen to YOU, at least this once. She doesn't want pneumonia now does she?

Prayers going out for you guys as wells. Take care of yourself. Is there anyone that help you out with the pup? Labs are very strong and strong willed. Don't hurt yourself. I don't think I could handle two strong dogs at once either.

Thanks so much. It is great to be able to vent a little.

Mom was sent home today. I wasn't there when she talked to the cardio; he's going to do an echo on her, but I don't know what they're looking for. Thanks for the prayers that they figure out what's going on. When she says she has pain, she's really hurting; she never complains unless it's business.

Superbob, let us know how it's going for you and Mrs. Superbob.

I had bronchitus just before the new year weekend, and I've had a lot of sinus infections over the years. They always give me Biaxin XL for those and it really worked great.

hang in there, both of you, things will get better. Last May, I got told I needed OHS NOW, not sometime in the hazy future - the day before my MIL's funeral - that was not a good week, but I am over it all now. The sun will come out for you two, as well.

Wise, if your mother had the pains this time last year could it be allergies ?? I know that probably sounds stupid and over-simple, but if she is allergic to a certain pollen, it could be affecting her lungs, and giving her chest pains?? Just a thought . . . .

We, too, are going through that upper respiratory crud that seems to be taking the city by storm. My wife and I both had the antibiotics, but we're about 10 days past the last dose and still gradually recovering. The cough seems to be the last symptom to go away.

Be very cautious with your mom's situation. We had some similar issues with my wife. She was taken to the ER a couple of times with chest pain, and had other angina-like symptoms. The doc's kept attributing it to all sorts of other junk. Finally I had her visit my cardio, and he immediately recommended a CT scan of the heart (non-invasive version of the cath). They found a major artery (right anterior, I think) that was 90% blocked! None of the ER doc's, or even her cardio had any clue. She now has a stent in place and is doing very well. The moral of my story is that many ER doc's and cardio's don't seem to take women's chest pain or other symptoms seriously until way too late. Better safe than sorry!
