Hi. I haven't been on site since my surgery, but mom has. You all may know her , Bobbie. I have been doing so well since my mvp repair in June. I have been med free, and symptom free. However, last night I had an episode of A Fib that lasted for about 2 hours, constant! I was really afraid. I took a 25 mg Toprol-xl , and eventually got some peace. I am going to mt cardiologist this afternoon, and am waiting for my surgeon to call me. I have had flutters in the past with my mvp even before my surgery, but thet were never documented. My surgeon didn't seem to think afib was even an issue. Anyone out there to offer me some advice? I am trying to gather some info so I can have a handle on what to do. I am feeling anxious about having another condition to worry about, since the surgery was life changing. Any help you can offer would be apppreciated!

I don't think it's anything to get worried about. Your only 5 months out, so your still healing on the inside. It's probably just an anomaly at this point, but do run it past the Cardiologist.

Please do let us know what you find out at the Cardiologists office - we will be anxiously awaiting word from you!

Janine, you may have to wear a 24 hour monitor or maybe an event monitor to see if you are having episodes of which you are not aware. Like Ross said, it is still early after surgery and this might be just a little glitch. Believe me, everyone has a glitch or two. If it is an on-going concern then there are many treatment options available. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the replies Ross, Erica, and Betty. I wore the halter monitor for 48 hours and am returning it today. I hated every minute of having something attached to me , but did it anyway. Of course I did not feel anything unusual. I go tomorrow to follow up and see what they now recommend. The dr does not want me to take any betablockers until they know if I am having any afib. My surgeon did not seem concerned when I spoke to him. He suggested going bak on the Lopressor and I would be fine. To give them 6 months, and then try wheening off again. My cardio doesnt seem to keen on listening to what my surgeon says. When I go back tomorrow I WILL find out if they are willing to work together! If not I may be shopping around again for a new cardio that will! I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.

Hi- I went to cardio on Thurs. He was very nice and seems to be onboard with listening to my questions and concerns. He says he will follow up with my surgeon. So needless to say I feel more at ease with the patient-dr relationship. The halter showed some SVT's, so he concluded the episode I had were the same type of tachycardia only longer lasting due to the stress of the day. He put me back on the Toprol-XL 25 mg once a day, and says it will help with my blood pressure and keep everything on an even keel. I may still feel some SVT's but nothing to worry about. I'm not quite sure if the episode was indeed SVT's, but I am willing to think of it that way, atleast until I feel anything different. I am hoping the betablocker will lessen the occurences. I am trying hard not to feel depressed about going bak on meds, however I know this is something I will probably have to do for a long time. My only concern is long term affects. The dr. says ther are none. If you have any info about the Toprol-Xl I'd be interested. I don't have to go back for follow up for 6 months, unless something occurs. So I'm movin on - Peace to All!

Mark-
Thanks for the reply. I am having weird visual disturbances since my surgery too. I've had occular migraines in the past, and am having them on and off since surgery. Even yesterday I had the "galloping" heart beat on and off for 30 minutes with the blurry vision (floaters) in my left eye. I don't usually worry about it, as I am used to them by now. I am looking forward to being where you are, 1year out. I'm glad to hear the Toprol worked for you. I'm still not sure. I was on Lopressor after surgery. My cardio likes the extended release Toprol better, so I'm giving it a try.
I live in Toms River, with my hubby and two kids-

Peace-

Janine
