Every so often some of us have talked about how nice it can be to organize your thoughts and pictures into a "book" that you can put on your coffee table, give away, etc. My daughter started a Blog when Ellie was born. I recently decided to combine some of her work and mine into a family book.

There is software you can download for free to help you create your book. I actually use the Apple software called "Pages", because it seems to give more options to get colors, layout, etc. just the way you want it.

As some of you may recall, I was waiting in Minnesota, holding off my heart surgery until Stephanie had taken the bar exam in North Carolina. She took (and passed!) the bar exam within a few days of giving birth. Barb had gone to North Carolina to help Stephanie pull off this incredible feat. Meanwhile we were all pulling for my Aorta valve and stem to hold off just a few more days. Because I was in a holding pattern in Minnesota I wasn?t there to take any of the initial pictures, and can?t claim the credit for some of the really good pictures you will see at the beginning of the book.

Barb and Stephanie did some amazing work that summer. Giving birth, then passing the bar exam, while one husband was deployed in Iraq and the other was staying near the hospital for imminent heart surgery.

(This is a practical example of why our soldiers and their families need all the support we can give them. The black and white pictures you will see were done professionally. This was money Stephanie and Joe didn?t really have to spend, but Joe went back to Iraq 10 days later, and there are no guaranties).

The day after taking the bar exam Stephanie, Ellie and Barb drove from North Carolina to Minnesota where I had decided to have my surgery. My surgery was a success, and Joe is back. We are hoping he won?t have a third deployment, but there is no way to tell. All things considered it seems good to prepare a little book that Ellie can look back on years from now.

I figured out how to publish the first few pages on my blog. If you are interested in seeing what a book might look like, please click the blue link to the blog at the bottom of this post. (To start with page 1 you will need to cursor down past page 4, etc.
