I meet a man today at church that had his valve replace a month ago he is 81 years young. He is doing fine except for blue toes. which is something his wife told me only happens to older people.
He is a big man at 81 years old I had to look up at him and Im 6 foot 1 inches. He had a bovine valve put in because of his age his wife did say he moos sometimes. I think she said he also had a single by-pass. His wife also had a quadruple by-pass. I think it was around the same week as her husband and she is also doing great. They told me they went to Florida after there surgery.

That is truly amazing and a work of God.

Valve replacement surgery and good recovery at an advanced age is apparently not that uncommon.

Before my mitral valve surgery, my French friend Marie put me in touch with a friend of her family's, René, a Frenchman who now lives in Alabama. René is 82 years old. He had an AVR with a bovine valve two years ago, at age 80. He's a former French army pilot. He escaped after the French surrender in 1940 and came to the US where he was assigned to train American military pilots.

After he got his new aortic valve, he travelled back to France for a reunion with his old flying buddies; went up and did some of the acrobatics he used to do as a young guy. I've not met this guy personally, just online, but everybody says he is amazingly hale & hearty, and in the pictures from the flying reunion he looks about 60 or so.
