Jeff went for his first echo since his surgery 8 months ago (hard to believe it's been that long  ) Everything went very well. His cardiologist says his heart is back to normal size, blood flow is great, kidney function back to normal.
There was a student working with the echo tech and she is the one who actually did the echo. Jeff was getting a little nervous because she kept saying she couldn't find what she was looking for. She had to keep asking for help from the tech. He was starting to get a little concerned that something was wrong with him because it was taking so long. ;) Luckily it was just a student in training :)

His piggy valve is doing great!! OINK OINK!!

Congratulations, Jeff and Michelle- that's always such a relief to have a good first echo. Best wishes for many years of oinking with your new valve!

I'm looking into the piggy valve myself. Do you feel it was the best decision? How old is Jeff?

Yes, I feel the piggy valve is a good choice. Jeff's surgeon referred to the valve as "the Mercedes of valves, not the Cadallac, but the Mercedes". He told us it is the best currently available. He also said that of the people who have them no one has had to have it replaces yet so he couldn't give us a lifespan on it. They are at 15 or so years so far. We highly respect the surgeon he had. We found that one of Jeff's co-worker's wife is a good friend of the surgeon and she said that he is one of the best there is. He goes to Europe a few times a month just to instruct other surgeons. We found this out after Jeff's surgery. He also had a great personality. You felt comfortable asking him any question. He took the time to answer.

Jeff was 37 when he had the surgery last October and he is doing great. He is twoboysdad on here if you would like to contact him directly.

Best of luck with your decision.

Michelle
