My sixth month post-surgery cardio appointment is coming up and I'm curious what I can expect? In addition to my monthly monitoring of my coumadin level, I am also on Toprol XL beta blocker and I hope to be weaned off of that pretty soon.

I would expect an echocardiagram will be in my future, however is there any other 6-month procedure I should expect?

As always, I appreciate your comments. :)

Generally, if you're not having any problems, and the examinations don't raise any flags, it's likely just echoes from here on out. You may or may not have an echo at 6 mos...every situation is different.

YMMV

why six months

why six months

I've never stopped to think why SIX MONTHS, but I suppose that it means that things should definitely be 100% OK for most people by then and that's when the doctors can safely tell you to really go back to leading a normal life. They say that the sternum can take up to ten years to heal up completely though. As far as I'm concerned, there's no conection between the six month post operation period with the type of tests one has to do. Obviously, the recovery process isn't exactly the same for everybody and it's only your doctor who 's able to tell you for sure what you can or can't do.
