Hi All,
Thought I'd update you all on my progress as yesterday was my 6 week anniversary of my Mitral Valve repair.
Firstly I have to say how well I feel compared to how I thought I'd feel at this stage. I really thought that I would be very limited at this stage but apart from the lifting (which really doesn't matter at the moment as my wonderful wife is taking care of that), I am leading a normal life. I have minimal pain which has meant that I have stopped all pain killers and I'm glad of that as I feel they were making me tired. Because of this, over the last week, I have had much more energy and am now only having one daytime sleep per day.
I am also now able to lay on my side which means I am sleeping much better as sleeping on my back was very hard due to me being a side sleeper normally.
My meds situation is that my warfarin has settled at 37mg per week and my INR is stable at around 2.6. I am taking 2.5mg or bisoprolol and 4mg of perindropril per day. The warfarin should stop after 3 months.
Exercise wise, I am walking anywhere upto 3 miles a day at the moment but intend to increase that as the weeks go by. I don't intend to go back to work at least until I see the surgeon for the first time post op, which is early June.
I'd like to thank you all again for your advice and kind words of support and would like to end on a word of advice for those pre op - it isn't as bad as your expecting, the wait is definately the worst part and I certainly won't be as worried if I do ever have to have such an operation again.
