Hello there to all my Valve-friends. I am now 5 months post-op and it all seems like a lifetime ago... I started working again on the 4th of August and I was doing very well...

Until 3 weeks ago when I started to get sick: muscle pains, weakness, terrible chronic headaches, feverish, my vision is a bit blurry, swolen glands and over the weekend I started with this rash over my legs and arms and there is traces of protein in urine. My Medical aid kicked in again yesterday and I went to see my GP today who is testing for some kind of infection - hopefully it is not streptococcus or endocarditis. I don't feel extremely sick, just have not been feeling well for the past few weeks.

No nightsweats, No extreme/high fevers...

I should have the results by Thursday, at the latest. Anyone who had endocarditis before?

Thank you, really appreciate the help.

I've had endocarditis. I don't want to worry you, but I also had a low-grade fever and terrible chronic headaches, the worst headaches I've ever had. I was also weak (or maybe I should say, just wiped out). I hope it's not that, but if it is, have it taken care of immediately.

Congratulations on your 5 month anniversary. Time sure flies. I hope what you are experiencing isn't anything serious and you are feeling better soon. Best wishes.

Hi Smiley, good to hear from you.
I remember you had your surgery right after me.
Its great you have been working( I'm not working-yet). So don't feel
badly about having to take a break.

Sorry to hear about a possible infection. I have had endocarditis and
in the beginning the symptoms can be vague.
The one good thing is that you are on top of it-what ever it is, so
try not to worry and please keep us posted.
Best wishes to you-Dina:)

Hey Smiley over the weekend when I met with some S. African relatives you came to mind as someone who has dropped below the VR radar, . :) 'Where's she gone' I thought, 'hope she is OK'

Let us all know how things pan out. I too am an endocarditis survivor. I know you are easily worried, so let's just leave it there. ;)

Thank you to everyone that responded. I didn't go very far. Still popped in every now and then, just didn't post an update since I think 3 months post-op or something...

Had a terrible time with my Employers who fired me 8 weeks post-op - while I was still booked off sick. But I took them to the Labour court and they had to pay out a nice gratuity towards ill-health and then I resigned. Was blessed enough to find a new, better job and I am doing well, considering the fact that some bug or infection likes me so much, it does not want to leave me alone!!!

Bonzo,
Do you know where in S.A. your relatives come from? small world ;)

My wife was born in Pietermaritzburg, but emigrated with her parents as a 6 months old and is now a full on Yorkshire lass. :) Some once farmed in rural Natal, some from Durban, some in Pretoria, some were in Botswana. My father in law is an ex Hilton College pupil.
Our 15 year old daughter has just come back from 4 weeks treking through Zambia and Botswana. I was lucky to visit Zimbabwe and also Mozambique many years ago, not S. Africa though.
