I have often wondered about this but I keep forgetting to ask my cardiologist....

(1) he has me alternating my doseage of Coumadin. On MWF I take 7.5mg and other days I take 5mg. I have a RX for Warfarin 5mg and I get samples of Coumadin 2.5mg from his office and on Mon/Wed/Fri I take both. Does it hurt to mix the two?

(2) What can you take for a cold and cough over the counter?

(3) Does alcohol raise or lower your INR? I rarely ever drink but I had a glass of champagne last night and my INR was fine today.

1. I mix both Warfarin and Coumadin just like you. I don't see anything wrong with it, but some people do. I'd continue to do it until told otherwise.

2. Robitussin is the only thing that I know of off hand.

3. Alcohol should raise your INR but it can go either way. You'd have to drink more then once and be inconsistent for it to have a real affect on your INR. Don't forget, dosage changes take 3 days to show up.

As far as natural supplements - I would have said (before coumadin):
echinacea
feverfew
vitamin c
zinc

But I've read that with coumadin echinacea and feverfew are a no-no, vitamin c has mixed reviews on whether if affects INR, but I haven't heard anything against zinc supplements to boost one's immune system.

Don't beleive a word of it. Ross's rich uncle died and left him half of General Electric. Ross is on the beach in Cancun surrounded by beach bunnies, drinking Rum punches, and getting rubbed with suntan oil every hour on the hour. Some guys have it made !!!
