My personal experience is they both raise INR. When I had a stomach bug 2 months post ohs, I hit 6.1.

I agree with Tom. When I was younger Iused to do a lot of long distance, fast paced cycling through the mountains. Cramps could be a big time problem-and there was nothing better than eating bananas.

If you are severely dehydrated you may need to go to the ER and receive IV fluids with electrolytes.

I'm thinking diarhea could go either way, depending on when you took your Coumadin / Warfarin relative to the diarhea. If you had diarhea soon after you took your Coumadin I'm 'guessing' that could cause your INR to drop (i.e. you would not receive the full dose).

If your diarhea occurred well after your Coumadin was metabolized, I'm thinking that could result in a higher INR due to lower fluid levels in your system.

Check with your Medical Professionals for a better / more detailed understanding of the effects of those issues on INR.

FWIW, a GI Nurse once told me that FIBER helps with both constipation and diarhea. In the case of constipation, Fiber helps to soften the stools for easier passage. In the case of diarhea, Fiber helps to add bulk.

Vitamin K in the digestive tract

Vitamin K in the digestive tract

Diarrhea disrupts the digestive tract (duh...LOL). Vitamin K is produced in the small intestines if I'm not mistaken, so there is a very good possibility that if you have diarrhea, your INR will rise due to the lack of Vitamin K production.

Sorry, but I believe I have misdirected everyone.
And now, for some TMI;

It's not diarrhea as one would think about diarrhea. It's more like the lack of "form", and I do have IBS.
This occurrence only happens once during the day, usually early morning. I take my warfarin dosage at 5:00pm.

I was just wondering if the combination of watery stools and leg cramps (due to the possibility of dehydration) could effect the INR.

With the new info....probably not Freddie. Have a banana at night, see if that helps the leg cramps. As for the other...well...it's best not to strain anyway. :D

Freddie:

Do you have a GI doctor? Have you been Rxed anything for the IBS or advised to follow a diet to would reduce the symptoms?

I'm familiar with it in animals, and it's not an easy disease to deal with. So many possible causes.

It could, but not likely severe enough to be of concern. I would recommend that you have a BMP blood test done to see if you might not need a potassium supplement.

UP-DATE

It appears that my little panic was unnecessary, but I do thank everyone for their replies.

Went to the lab today for a comparison test. Monitor was 3.1, lab came back at 3.0
Don't ask if I'm happy :)

Freddie:

You're doing the happy dance right now, aren't you? :) I could hear your Woo-Hoos! all the way down here to Texas!

hee, heee
Just a little dance Marsha. Still dealing with the after effects of them legs cramps which occurred Tuesday morning. Not as painful today, I'm able to do the stairs almost at normal pace.

Oh, I have been eating my bananas, not sure if its helping, but the pain is bearable now.
