What a terrible tragedy for all on board the Air France plane that is missing.

There were 3 young Irish girls on board. They were qualified doctors, had finished exams and gone on a 2 week holiday.

God help all the heart broken families and friends involved in every part of the world.

I'm trying to comprehend how you lose an Airbus and no one seems to be able to find it.

News reports say they've spotted wreckage in the search area. I didn't read the story yet, though.

One theory is the plane being struck by lightning. Lightning strikes bringing down commercial airliners is a rare event. The two biggest air disasters are

Pan American Flight 214(1963)
and
LANSA Flight 508

The Lansa crash featured the miraculous survival story of Juliane Köpcke. After the plane broke up, Kopcke fell up to two miles strapped in her airline seat. Afterwards she walked for 10 days through the jungle till she was found.

They may never know for certain what brought down Air France 447. Something similar to this plane crash. Any clues, and black boxes, could be at depths of many thousands of feet below sea level.
